The African generation whose life has spanned the colonial period and the years of "independence" witnessed an Africa on the cusp of great changes. A great transition away from a traditional life style. The "color bar" and initialization of a western life style greatly impacted the lives of this generation. If one spoke the English language with an accent that pleased the colonial masters one earned great respect. He/she speaks the "queen's English" they would say. Tension arose between Christianity and the African cultural way of life leading to an uneasy co-existence and confusion between the new and the old. What impact did all these have on my generation and how does it affect the future generation on the African continent? The book is an attempt to recount the story from the life experience of a Kenyan who has lived through these times.
