Orphan, Tommy Blankenship, runs away from his orphanage on Earth and stows away on a ship that takes him to the Alpha Station. A far away trading post of Humans and many other species. He gets work on the loading dock of the station and gets caught up in his boss's gun running business. He is befriended by Mot, a Tomanian, who also works on the dock. Tommy and Mot end up on the crew of Donovan Starky a smuggler and pirate. They smuggle guns and try to avoid getting entangled in the galactic war between the Worax and the Gigos. This book follows Tommy as he grows from being a naive teenager to being the Ancient Mariner, a notorious smuggler and deadly pilot.
