The Sting of an Era is a novel about the fight and defeat against man's fiercest enemy, poverty. Boy is an ambitious man who is born in the heart of postcolonial Africa. He is a man who came too late to the feast. Whatever is left of tribal values and community togetherness in his homeland was shattered long before he was born. These values now present as disconnected superstitions harbored by a disgruntled, poor and dejected society. The flame of his hope remains lit by a dogmatic pursuance of western education and the dream of moving to the West one day. When he excels in his education and immigrates to Scotland he is immersed and slowly drowns in a culture he had not anticipated.
