This is a memoir and for that reason we have hewed as closely as possible to fact: we described events as they happened and in the way they happened. But as much as a memoir this is a love story: a love story that proves that sometimes real narrations can be more improbable than fiction. The events described, for the most part in detail, also give the modern reader an understanding of how the farm/ranches of the western Midwest actually functioned in the early years of the twentieth century, as well as what kind of life was led by a daughter of well-to-do parents (by Puerto Rican standards of the time) who was living on a tropical island. For the most part, Don's and Argelia's adventures make for pleasant reading but tragedies are also an inevitable part of human life and tragedy also touched them. Two writers who have published have examined our manuscript and expressed positive impressions. Dr. Pat McCaw, of Eldridge, Iowa, wrote this comment: "I enjoy your memoir. It is well written, with fantastic personal stories. Dr. Judith Finkelstein, Professor Emerita of the University of Northern Iowa, commented: "I think you should see about having this made into a movie or drama for TV or something like that. More people need to be able to learn of your very interesting lives and the fascinating series of events which brought you together forever.
