It's the 1955 Christmas season in Blue Town, an old blighted district of Industrial City. Hard-boiled private detective Joe Luger is hired by a rich and beautiful young woman to find her missing boyfriend. What appears to be a simple missing persons case turns into a twisted tale of murder and intrigue. Susan Wingard is a young woman that Joe meets when he catches a thief fleeing the Blue Town Mission, a homeless shelter. She works at the mission. They quickly connect, becoming close, but she is hiding a secret from her past which is intertwined with the case that Joe is working. It could destroy their future. William Desault is an older man staying at the mission. Susan Wingard befriends him, and they watch out for each other. He is shrouded in many secrets and seems to know things about Susan's hidden past. As a former private investigator with connections to the Ellerbee Chemicals company, he is able to assist Joe in finding the truth. The trail leads to a decades-old serial murder investigation, and a chemical company creating chemical weapons to sell to the highest bidder. Joe Luger encounters a series of unusual characters and situations in his pursuit of truth, building with a crescendo of deadly events to a death-defying rescue from a fiery island.
