Bradley Feldman, who has graduated college in the early sixties, goes for an interview with the personnel manager of New York City's schools. The interviewer tells Bradley that he is too fat to teach but short lists the boy for a weight loss program at Brookhaven National Laboratories. There he is set in a rooming hospital with Carol, a near graduate, Bison, a six hundred pound teen, Doris, a middle aged dirigible, and Judine, an overweight Harlem schizophrenic. The weight challenged entourage bonds under Bradley's leadership. Their success is challenged by Bison's Munchausen by Proxy Mother as well as tragic social pressures.
