It is the Ukrainian version of a fairy tale about a gold fish. An old man went into the forest to cut down a tree to heat the oven, and all of a sudden the tree began to speak to him in a human voice, and promised to help him if need be. The old man told this to his wife, and then she could not stop herself in her desires because of greed. So it ended badly for both of them.
