I'd been waiting to turn eighteen for as long as I could remember. Eighteen was important in my family. It was when we learned about the family secrets. The ones I'd already figured out years ago.

Eighteen was when we became hunters -- vampires, werewolves, you name it we went after it. That's what we did.

I didn't count on my parents being so against me joining them. I definitely didn't count on Xan, my oldest and closest friend being nothing like I thougth he was -- not even the human I thought he was. Nor did I count on feelign about him the way I was starting to feel...

So maybe I was a bit rash when i took the contract without telling anyone. I suppose it doesn't matter because with or without their approval, I'm on an international flight on my way to the other side of the world to finally fulfill my destiny.

Let's just hope it doesn't get me killed.
