Battles
Charlotte Navarre
Battle on the sea, battle of the heart, battle of the mind. William and Abbey must face all three together. The problem is not with the first two, but the third one is a challenge. After falling overboard and hitting his head while in battle, he awakens not knowing who Abbey is or what she meant to him. She and the crew try to trigger his memories, but they do not surface. Abbey is at a loss on what to do. She cannot resume her life being so close to him yet so far away. It pains her to know that he just thinks of her as a woman to conquer then be disregarded. Sailing to Boston with her uncle seemed her only recourse. Marcus tries to persuade her to stay and help to lift the fog that invades William's mind. She tries, but the pain is too hard to bear. Slowly some of his memories start to come to light. She fears that he had heard these things from the crew and refuses to believe that her 'Willum' is returning. She calls him Captain Ryker instead of Willam and it digs at his heart. He feels it is a lost cause and tells her so. His plans are to return to his island in the morning, without her. Once she hears of this, it is too late. He tells her to go northward and be free of him. He abandons her as she did him. Her uncle suggests that she sail with him that night to St. John so she could avoid watching him sailing out of her life. Unbeknownst to her, they would not return to Plymouth. Her father insists that Seamus take her away to Boston once they leave St. John. It breaks his heart to tell him so, but it was for her own good. William is under the impression that she will return to Plymouth in the morning, so he postpones his sail until she arrives back. A very long wait that will be. Patrice, Abbey's mother, tells him of the plan devised by her husband and tells him which ports they will be stopping on their northward voyage. He is angry at Shaun for his meddling, but at first light the 'Irish Rose' set sail in search of her.
