In 1995, Eve and Jack Elway on Spring break with their children are four-wheeling in Utah's red rock country enjoying the pristine desert, when they run into a right-wing militia based on the Utah-Arizona border. The Elway's seven-year old daughter stumbles on to a meeting between a soldier in the clandestine military group and a middle eastern agent at a secluded narrow in the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park. They are planning the liaison between their two groups at a remote location in Canyonlands National Park to finance domestic terrorism. The next day the daughter is recognized by the the subversives as they and the Elways coincidently reach the isolated overlook of the Confluence of the Colorado and Green Rivers. A deadly pursuit to silence the Elway family involves a harrowing moonlit chase over Elephant Hill in four-wheel drive vehicles. Hunted by the militia, Eve and Jack are separated and he ends up in a hidden dead-end canyon. The pursuers close in for the kill. Jack and two children take refuge behind a brush covered sand dune that hides the overhang protecting the ancient pictographs of the Three Patriarchs. In the eerie silence and company of these three muted figures, they wait for what they fear is the inevitable.
