1001 Nights with Stan Kenton is a collection of stories recalling the lives of 19 musicians riding on a bus to 'Nowhere'. These anecdotes do not negate the music played under the banner of 'The Stan Kenton Orchestra'. On stage and around the world the music told one story but a musician's life consists of more than just the notes and rhythms played in front of a live audience or studio mic. These stories, conceived somewhere between stage and a good night's sleep, bear witness to the realities of life on the road. It is by no small miracle and with much sacrifice that our Fearless Leader successfully got 18 musicians to join him on stage for many more than 1001 nights. Once onstage, the music always spoke for itself.
