A little more than 1500 years, that was the duration of the history of Babylon, the lighthouse of Civilization. Founded at an unknown date, the small Neolithic village grew to become the capital of the great Hammurabi Empire, and then fell during the dark centuries of the Assyrian conquest. The city would be reborn in all its splendor with the Neo-Babylonian Empire, until its melancholy end under the Persian yoke, in 539 BC. This is its History.
