A young witness was able to accurately describe a murder in detail, down to a general description of the killer, but she did so while secured in a hospital room twenty miles away - and she is blind. Malcolm and Mary have been sent out to see if there is a way to corroborate what the witness claims to have seen, but they have hit two snags. The first is that the suspect in custody insists the real killer is a ghost. The second snag is something called The Crowfort List, which seems to be at the heart of the unusual patients being kept hidden in a restricted subterranean section of the hospital. Solving the murder will be difficult. Keeping the patients alive, even more so. The Witness Who Wasn't There sees Malcolm Mercer and Mary Bristol tackle their third and final mystery.
