Virginia Wattles has been a professional artist for several years after retiring from a twenty-seven-year career as an art educator. In 1991 she was named Nebraska's Artist / Educator of the year. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America since 1991 and The society of Portrait Artists. Her paintings, done exclusively in pastel are in numerous corporate, academic, and museum collections in the United States, Europe, and Japan. She has participated in many invitationals, one-person, and juried shows over the years, winning many prizes including a Grumbacher Silver Medal.
