Chasing Tomorrow is based on the true story of a young Polish Jew separated from his family in 1939 who outruns the Nazis and survives the war alone. Zygmunt Schwager is the scrappy second son of a tailor living in western Poland. As rumors of the trouble brewing in Europe come to his village, no one believes the conflict will reach them. But Zygmunt is afraid. He travels to the nearest city to confirm the reports. In his absence, Nazi forces advance and he cannot return home. So he runs. With only his wits and his cunning nature to rely on, he heads east through Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Uzbekistan, never knowing whether he will see another sunrise. Fifty years after his arrival in New York, Zygmunt remains a cold and distant man. His daughter Karinna cannot understand why her many requests for his story have always been dismissed. When he finally agrees to tell her, Karinna discovers a deeply broken and lonely man. In order to repair their relationship, she must confront her mistaken beliefs and embrace the man she never knew.
