Gray Fox was captured by a White man leading a raid on his peaceful village. The man shoots his father and clubs his mother down. He is taken to replace the man's little boy who died from the flu. His name is changed to Pee Wee and is forced to learn the White Eyes ways. Things change when the man finds out his Christian wife wants no part of Gray Fox. He is treated with disdain and beaten into learning the White Eyes ways and language as a slave. He is placed on calves as a joke, but learns to ride them and so to break wild broncs. He is picked on by the the town boys and when he defends himself, he is punished. He helps his Master defeat the Enemy (Indians) when they come to steal horses. When his Master is killed in a raid, he is blamed and hunted.
