All that remains of the Earth and Planets Confederation's Third Battle Group is five battle-damaged ships. They arrive unannounced at Becket's World asking to be rescued from the superior alien force that is still pursuing them. Their unexpected arrival brings a sudden and unwelcome end to ten years of peace on Becket's World. A world that after the Alpha's deadly attack ten years before, has learned with the help of alien technology to defend itself.
