Joshua Parks is working at the Pekin Correctional facility when he goes to Terre Haute, Indiana to handle a problem that has been bothering him. Once he returns a fellow employee, Jalinda Larrimore has been admitted in to the hospital. Joshua goes to her apartment to handle her problem. Jalinda moves in with Joshua for a couple of weeks to recuperate. They have a short love affair before Jalinda goes back to her apartment. Joshua still goes every once in a while, to Lucy's Bar for karaoke Saturdays. Joshua is disturbed by the news that China has moved their troops to the border across from Taiwan. The U. S. Army re-instates Joshua and sends a large group of men to Taiwan. Joshua doesn't have to stay there long. North Korea uses this as a ruse to attack the South. Joshua is immediately sent to Korea where he fights another battle. After spending another year and a half in Korea, Joshua returns home to find out there are no openings at the Pekin prison. Joshua is offered a job at the Menard Facility, a maximum prison. The Army offers him a post. Joshua has to decide between the two. He decides to take a road trip to clear his head before making a decision. He buys a Harley and takes off toward the west coast. He stops at many a small town, meeting friendly people wherever he goes. He stops in San Diego and meets a girl at a Padres baseball game. Grace Starr lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. After finishing his trip, Joshua stops in Salt Lake to see Grace before he heads for home. He and Grace fall in love, but he still has to go back to Illinois to make up his mind about a career. Will Joshua re-join the Army or find a prison to work at? Will Joshua find a way to go back to Salt Lake and marry Grace?
