Rhymes, Crimes and Other Pastimes is an anthology of selected poetry and short stories of a New England poet and writer. Divided into three sections, "Rhymes" consists of narratives dealing with the lives and experiences of farmers, town drunks, village idiots, wealthy bankers, postal workers, ghosts, enchanted creatures, and of the poor - and sometimes misunderstood - common men and women of New England, in particular, "Down East". The second section, "Crimes", includes seven short stories of corruption and horror, each one ending with an unexpected twist. The third and final section, "Other Pastimes" includes freeform poems addressing everything from love and hate; remorse and regret; disappointment and hope; as well as other topics that the author has observed from a lifetime of experiences.
Brett Gordon, a native of New Hampshire, is a poet, artist, musician and writer. If you have purchased this book, or perhaps, borrowed it from a friend, thank you!
