To translate poetry is usually to interpret the poem in another language. Trying to maintain the essence, cadence, language, rhythm, emotion, and thoughts, in addition to the figurative language and metaphors among other poetic figures of the author is a great challenge.
To translate poetry that contains transgressor language and new conceived words for inclusion in Spanish to English a generally neutral gender language, makes this challenge even greater, although it has resulted to be very entertaining too.
Sharon's poems are raw and beautiful, and I hope the translation reflects everything as faithfully as possible to the original. It was a joy to work on this book.
