De Institutione Feminae Christianae: Liber Secundus & Liber Tertius : Introduction, Critical Edition, Translation and Notes (Selected Works of Juan Luis Vives , No 7)
Juan Luis Vives
Juan Luis Vives' tract on the education of Women, "De Institutione Feminae Christianae" (1524, revised 1538) became a model for conduct books in various Protestant traditions and as such has been of interest to historians of education. The treatise also made an important contribution to the "querelle des femmes" of its time and has consequently generated much interest among modern historians of women and gender. The treatise is divided into three books, one for each stage of a woman's life - maidenhood, marriage and widowhood. This volume provides an English translation of books II and III of the treatise (Book I was also published in English by Brill in 1996).
