In this big famous castle Frederiche Johanne Stricker (1791-1846), my husband’s three times grandmother lived the first part of her life. Here was Fikke – as she was called - married in 1812 to a close relative Johan Ditleff Stricker. He was born in Tranquebar in South India as the eldest son of the commandant of Fort Dansborg. Johan Ditleff was offered a fine military post in Tranquebar, and the young couple with their first-born child left Denmark for a long voyage to Tranquebar. The novel begins at the arrival in 1814 and tells about the new and very different life of Fikke. With time she missed the Motherland more and more. Would she ever see her beloved Kronborg again?
