Periodontitis is the major cause of tooth loss and is also associated with various systemic conditions. Hence, it can be considered an important global health problem in terms of quality of life. Therefore, the early diagnosis and the efficient control of disease is the most important goal for periodontitis. At present, the diagnosis of periodontitis is traditionally based on the measurement of clinical parameters including plaque index, bleeding on probing, periodontal pocket depth, and clinical attachment loss. Saliva is of great help in detecting and diagnosing periodontal disease, it is "the mirror of the body". The main motive given for the utilization of saliva as a diagnostic tool is that the majority of biomarkers found in saliva sample. The present book shows the correlation between different MMPs inflammatory biomarkers and chronic periodontitis.
