This book is author's PhD thesis work carried out at IPGT& RA under Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar. Dementia is an organic mental disorder. According to DCM-IV, when it affects elderly persons after sixty five years of age, it is regarded as senile dementia. Impairment of memory is the main feature of dementia, cognitive deficits, impairment of coordination, judgement, intellect etc. are also found in this disease. This disease is increasing rapidly all over the world, highly effective therapy having curative as well as preventive aspects is very required. In Ayurveda, Senile Dementia is not mentioned as a separate disease entity. Many terms such as Smritibhramsha, Smritinasa regarding senile dementia are discussed in vivid way. The etiological factors, signs and symptoms, management, treatment as well as prevention of this disease are described meticulously.
