One of the most frequently debated issues in academic and international relations circle is immigration, arguments have been made for and against immigration within scholars ranging from its effects on security, culture, and unemployment on the receiving state and brain drain and exploitation on the giving state. This study examines the response of the EU in managing immigration by analyzing the different treaties and policy documents on the subject of immigration. Thereafter, it evaluates the migration trends in the four major migrant destination countries within the EU. These countries are Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Within a period of 7 years (2010 - 2017), this study further examines, in particular, the effect of immigration on unemployment and the ensuing findings show that the increased immigration does not have a direct relationship on the unemployment level within the states as opposed to theories propagated by some anti-immigration proponents.
