A baseball park, also known as a baseball stadium, ball park, or ballpark is the venue where baseball is played. It consists of the playing field and the surrounding spectator seating. While the diamond and the areas denoted by white painted lines adhere to strict rules, the guidelines of the rest of the field are very flexible. This allows ballparks on all levels of baseball, amateur and professional, to have their own character and quirks. The term "ballpark" is sometimes used ambiguously, sometimes referring to the entire structure, and sometimes just the playing field. A home run which occurs when the player makes it around the bases and home without the ball leaving the playing field is typically called an "inside-the-park" home run, as opposed to a home run hit over the fence. Sometimes a home run over the fence is referred to as going "out of the ballpark," but that phrase is more often used to mean a home run which clears the stands and lands outside the building. The playing field is most often referred to as the "ballfield," although the term is often used interchangeably with "ballpark" when referring to a small local or little-league facility.
