In 1853, artist Frederick Piercy set sail to America to document the journey of Mormon immigrants and produce an illustrated travel book to encourage other British Mormons to emigrate to Utah. Originally published in 1854 through 1855 as a subscription series, the book was bound into a single volume in 1855 and was, according to one scholar, ìthe most beautiful book published by the Latter-day Saints.î
