English summary: The development of transfusion medicine into an independent medical discipline in Germany went hand-in-hand with the rapid development of modern high performance medicine in the second half of the twentieth century. Against the background of the history of transfusion medicine, this book describes the development of the Department of Transfusion Medicine at Erlangen Medical School and elucidates the specialities and unique features of the department in the context of Bavarian Medical Schools. Finally, the perspectives of transfusion medicine in the twenty-first century are discussed. German text. German description: Die Entwicklung des Faches Transfusionsmedizin zu einer selbstandigen Disziplin begleitet die rasante Entwicklung der modernen Hochleistungsmedizin in der zweiten Halfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Vor dem Hintergrund der Geschichte des Faches schildert das vorliegende Buch die Entstehung der selbstan- digen Abteilung fur Transfusionsmedizin am Universitats-klinikum Erlangen und arbeitet vor allem deren Besonderheiten und Alleinstellungsmerkmale in der Bayerischen Hochschul-medizin heraus. Abschliessend wird die Perspektive des Faches Transfusionsmedizin im 21. Jahrhundert beleuchtet.
