Watershed approach as area development programme is implemented by a variety of agencies in India with active participation of the stakeholders. Peoples Participation is indispensible for the effective performance and outcomes of watersheds and for ensuring its sustainability. This work assessed the impact of participatory watershed management on the society and on the environment. It makes a thorough study of the level of awareness and attitude of the participants; the nature and extent of stakeholder participation; the socio-economic and environmental impact of watershed activities.
