Long-haul optical telecommunication system nowadays depend solely with high power silica-based optical amplifier doped with Erbium as an active materials. Development of novel glass host for optical amplifier can renew and enhance the capacity and distance further to be more cost effective. This book focus on characterization and analysis of bismuth-based optical amplifier as a wide band optical amplifier for optical telecommunication. Bismuth host have shown significant improvement in term of optical gain, noise figure, length of optical fiber, compactness and more importantly the device cost. Author do believe with further study, bismuth-based optical amplifier capable to replace currently deployed silica-based optical amplifier due to its outstanding performances.
