In the study area the dominant reasons for cutting are to suppress women?s sexual desire and to make girls marriageable. There are many other socio-economic factors including religion, culture, stigma and discrimination towards uncircumcised girls, and source of income for circumcisers who were mainly Traditional Birth Attendants.
