Essentials of School Health and Educational Medicine: a Manual for School Health and Primary Health Care Workers Mostafa Abolfotouh

This manual displays two main sections. The first, School health programme, comprises an overview of the concepts of a school health programme and health promoting schools as well as why they are needed from social, economical, health and educational perspectives. It also describes the school health team and the role of each member, school health as a specialty to be mastered, and physician education in school health. It then discusses the components of a comprehensive school health programme, each component in a separate chapter, the essential function of each component, and action steps needed to implement it. The second section, Educational medicine, comprises an overview discussing the meaning of educational medicine and its objectives, in terms of ecology of learning, causes of poor school progress and common health problems as well as how each of these could affect the learning process. This manual is designed for school personnel and PHC workers (doctors, nurses, teachers, administrators, decision-makers and members of health promoting school teams). They are expected to make use of the material in the context of self-learning, training courses, and training of trainers too.
