It is customary for composers of this century to rely on materials drawn from their cultures for the creation of their works. Consequently, this researcher follows the path of his predecessors and thus derives elements from the traditional music of his people. However, this work centres on musical nationalism. It is a research based Nigerian Art Music Composition featuring three folk songs of Annang/Ibibio people for the flute and piano. The work attempts to showcase the Nigerian musical culture. It is an intercultural musical synergy between the Western and African musical elements and instrumental resources. It aims at preserving these songs through transcription and notation; thereby making them valuable data for future researches and expanding the music repertory for the Western flute and piano with Afro-Western/Afro-American inclination.
