The book essentially, is an account of the work participation of women in India. It profiles the trends in their work participation rate for the period 1983 to 2004-05. Further, an examination on the role of a limited number of individual and household characteristics that influences women work participation rate in a cause-effect relation has been carried out by estimating an econometric model. Another key issue that has been addressed is the relationship between work participation and the level of education as well as the role of caste and religion in influencing work participation of women in the country.
