In communicative language learning, the pedagogical solution to the problems of getting students to speak the target language is to engage learners in a meaningful activities such as the role play. Role play is used in developing the students speaking proficiency and provides an understanding of the dynamics of the learning process which resulted in students? progress of speaking. Thus, this study investigated the use of role play in motivating the Semester 1 Bandar Darulaman Community College students to speak during the English for Communication I class. Triangulation of method consisting of survey questionnaire, feedback analysis and interview were employed for data collection. The research indicated that most of the respondents responded positively to the role play used in the class. They gradually acknowledged and appraised its effectiveness for their enhancement and as a motivation in their speaking skills despite the fact that some respondents were unfamiliar with it. Finally, based on the findings some suggestions and recommendations for further research have been highlighted.
