Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) occupies a prominent place in economy of the whole world. Sugarcane is an important industrial crop & cultivated on close to 20 million hectares in more than 90 countries. It provides more incom to the growers and a source of employment throughout the year. Pakistan is at the 5th position among the top ten sugarcane producing countries and sugar industry is second one after textile industry. But Pakistan has a large area of salt affected cultivated land. Sugarcane being moderately salt sensitive crop, its growth and yield affected seriously. But the use of potash fertilizers can amend the situation. The ability of plant to take-up sufficient K+ and avoid the accumulation of too-much Na+ is one of the characteristics for salt tolerance. K+ is the major catonic inorganic nutrient and due to exhaustiveness of sugarcane crop towards potassium, appreciable amount of available potassium must be supplied to the plant. MOP is better than other potash fertilizers because of the fact that it is cheap and higher K2O content. Organic manure amendments are known for improving soil properties and increase in yield of plants.
