Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious, chronic granulomatous and debilitating disease caused by acid-fast bacilli of the genus Mycobacterium. The disease affects practically all species of vertebrates and is highly communicable and contagious. It is transmitted person to person, animal to animal and from animals to humans and humans to animals, directly and indirectly from infection arising by organisms of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTB), a group of closely related bacteria that includes: Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the primary agent of TB in humans and Mycobacterium bovis that is responsible for TB in cattle and other mammals including humans. Inhalation of infected droplets expelled from the lungs is the usual route of infection, although ingestion, particularly via contaminated milk, also occurs The contents of book are organized into 6 chapters. The 1st chapter very briefly introduces Tuberculosis in humans and animals and provides a concise overview of clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment of this disease in animals.
