For the last many decades child abuse and neglect has been recognized as a crucial issue by the researchers, government and non-government agencies round the globe; developed countries have come a long way to prevent child abuse and neglect but developing countries still need to do a lot. This book is an effort to comprehend the phenomenon of child abuse and neglect generally and particularly in South Asian cultural context where it has been persisting as a misconceived idea and a taboo subject for decades. In the feudal minded societies like Pakistan where children and women are merely perceived a property of the male members of the society; children are abused and physically tortured in the name of discipline. In such a scenario need was realized to address this so called private family issue. This book, therefore, introduces child abuse and neglect within indigenous Pakistani scenario linking it up to parenting styles, attitudes and overall home environment prevalent in the abusive families measured by indigenous measures while focusing the dominant father figure. Findings are discussed within local, regional and global context posing recommendations for the future research.
