India is the second largest producer of vegetable next to China. Cowpea is one of the most important leguminous vegetable crop. The area is increasing day by day under Cowpea crop, however, no suitable variety/ genotype is available to fulfill the present demand in case of the maximum yield with better quality. If we consider, the world scenario of cowpea production, India is far behind in productivity. So the increase in the production of cowpea is being possible by using best variety in most suitable time. Considering the productivity trends there is a need to increase the cowpea production by introducing new genotypes by sowing at different times.
