Ornamental fish production is an important component of the aquaculture industry and the ornamental fish trade is a foreign exchange earner besides being a source of employment. Goldfish, Carassius auratus are in demand in world markets due to their attractive colours. When aquaculture production becomes more intensive, the incidence of disease including infectious diseases has increased. The use of antibiotics and other chemotherapeutics for controlling diseases has been criticized for their negative impacts. Immunostimulants could not be used widely because of various disadvantages. Application of medicinal herbs in disease management is gaining success, because herbal treatment is cost effective, eco-friendly and has minimal side effects. This book emphasizes the influence of five herbal additives (garlic, ashwagandha, phyllanthus, aloe and tulsi) on the growth, gonad development and disease resistance in goldfish, Carassius auratus. It is hoped that this publication presented in an easy- to- read style with a number of photographs and illustrations would be of great use to all students who have fisheries in their curriculum and also a standard guide for the researchers.
