Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in its current form might not be applicable in Non Western cultures. Psychotherapy was developed in the west and is underpinned by many beliefs and practices which might be specific only to the Western culture. This book describes our work in adapting CBT for depression in Pakistan. The methodology was later replicated in the UK to adapt CBT for psychosis for ethnic minority patients. This was a mixed methods Study. The project consisted of two phases. In the first phase a series of studies were carried out, including interviews with psychologists, patients and group discussions with university students about their views regarding concepts underlying therapy. In the second phase adapted manual was tested in a small pilot project using a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) design.
