Up to date, only a few studies have been undertaken on the subject. The present dissertation, however, intends integrating both Turkish and South African resources previously unexplored. The main research questions are why links between the Ottoman State and South Africa emerged at that time and how they developed. When the current Turkish Republic is considered as the successor to the Ottoman Empire, it is important to explore the origin of the links between the two countries in order to understand the foundations of potential future international relations.
