The present study is on the role of intellectuals in a political movement demanding a separate state of Telangana within the federal setup of India. Presently, the Telangana region is a part of the state of Andhra Pradesh. In the political movement that is in progress at the time of writing this dissertation, the intellectuals, predominantly Telugu-speaking, and hailing from the Telangana region have been playing a very important role. The intellectual strata comprise academicians, journalists, writers, lawyers, cultural artistes etc., as well as a section of the student leadership in their advanced stages of education.
