Genetic engineering is known as the most powerful tool for crop improvement. This book, reviews the most popular gene transformation methods (Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and Particle bombardment) on banana genetic engineering and highlights the role of pathogen related (PR) proteins in banana improvement such as PR2, PR3 and PR5. A new explant, male inflorescence, is reported as an alternative meristemic explant for transferring rice thaumatin like protein gene (PR5) in banana. Moreover, a new banana cultivar which is resistance to Fusarium Wilt is introduced.
