Traditionally due to limited signal processing abilities and expensive professional equipments, malicious manipulation of image was a tedious task. But with the rapid growth in technology and internet distribution of digital media, an urgent need for copyright protection is been created because of easy replication and modification. Traditionally the authenticity and integrity of data was resolved using techniques like cryptography and digital signature. Cryptography is the science of writing data in secret codes. But the cryptography does not always provide safe communication, since the encrypted message causes suspicion. Digital signature emphasized protecting the rights of customer, but the drawback of conventional schema is the extra bandwidth needed for transmission of the signature. Watermarking is the technique which emphasizes on protecting the right of service provider. Digital watermarking is the process of embedding information into a digital signal. The signal may be audio, picture or video. Digital data could be easily copied, modified, tampered without legal authorization during multimedia transmission. Thus of importance the watermark is needed.
