Dynamic Behavior of Layered Soil Stratum: Theory, Simulation and Results
Venu Malagavelli
A layered soil stratum resting on half space is considered for finding ground response. Ground response analysis is performed using linear approach assuming that the ground surface and all material boundaries below the ground surface are horizontal and extend infinitely in all directions and that the response of soil deposit is predominantly caused by the vertically propagating shear waves (SH waves). Material nonlinearity of soils is approximated using equivalent linear approach, in which the actual non-linear hysteretic stress-strain behavior of cyclically loaded soils can be approximated by equivalent linear soil properties. Comparison is done for linear response and non-linear response for the above-mentioned problem.
