Border trade involves simplified export procedures and excludes specific products, it is limited to demarcated geographical area of operations. Introduction of Acts to monitor cross border trade leads to improved performance of the trade and living standard of people around the border areas. In Tanzania, an Acts has been formulated to guide formal cross border trades in order to eliminate the rampant smuggling of goods taking place in most areas of the Tanzania border posts. This study aimed at assessing the contribution of cross border trade in improving living standard of people in border trade. The study was conducted in selected border trading centers around Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. The study assessed whether the cross border trade improves the living standard of people around border area of Tanzania. Lastly, the study suggested ways to improve cross border trade in borders of Tanzania
