There is an increasing incidence of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in the Philippines. It has been one of the top ten killer disease in the country, affecting children, adolescent and young adults in their productive years. For persons with ESRD, kidney transplantation has become the chosen and highly effective method of treatment during the past decades. It is considered as established therapeutic technique in the country, successful transplantation restores almost a normal life and offers a full potential for the full return of a healthy productive life. Kidney transplantation is performed with the intention of providing prolongation of a good quality of life. Thus, it is not surprising to find that the quality of life after kidney transplantation have been a concern among health professionals. The focus of quality of life research has widened to include the patient's physical comfort, psychological health, social and vocational activity, and the impact on the patient;s family. In short, medical treatment like kidney transplantation is consciously directed to help a patient experience a comfortable or productive life.
