Information technology (IT) over the years has become important not only for business but also for governance, research activities, and personal use. The convergence with communications technologies to form what is now known as Information and communication Technology (ICT) has not only altered the way people live, work and play but has also created a new infrastructure for business, scientific advancement and social interaction. This revolution has fuelled the proliferation of new media and the globalization of business and finance. It has brought about complex issues that transcend national boundaries including the emergence of the ?digital divide? among nations, between races and communities. Although all nations, irrespective of race and creed are expected to draw from the numerous benefits ICTs offer, however events in the sector have proven to be the converse. While the developed world forge ahead with building knowledge societies, African countries are grappling with daunting social, political, economic and infrastructure challenges. This publication is a survey on the few accomplishments in the research sector of the Nigerian economy.
