Renewable power can't compete with fossil fuels without financial support because they are expensive and their technologies are not yet mature enough. As a result, support schemes are in place. However, the multitude of support schemes raises concerns from the angle of a single EU electricity market. Solutions at the national level may alter competition in the EU internal market. Then, is there a need to integrate the support schemes and have a single support scheme applicable throughout the EU? Since there are benefits and drawbacks to integration, is integration required? This analysis sheds more light on this issue and should be relevant to policy makers in EU member states. It should also be relevant to academics around the world that conduct research in this field
